How do I build a palette around my sofa or rug?
Start from the fixed thing. Lock that color first, get its hex from a photo if needed, then generate candidates around it. Judge wall candidates separately from trim candidates and accent candidates. Everything else auditions around the locked sofa color.
How do I check my palette works for text and backgrounds?
Assign roles first: darkest color for text, lightest or calmest for background, plus one accent. Then run the two pairs that matter through the color contrast checker on this site: text on background and accent on background. Body text needs 4.5:1. Large headings need 3:1.
How do I save a palette and use it in Figma or a mood board?
Use the Export button. The Figma format gives you a color object to paste into a variables plugin, and Download PNG gives a strip of swatches with the hex codes printed on each block, which drops straight onto a mood board. Nothing here is saved after you leave, so export before closing the tab.
Why does a palette look good in the swatch row but wrong once it is on the walls?
Proportion. The swatches sit at equal width, so every color reads at the same strength, and no real room splits that way. Give the quietest color the walls. The mid tone belongs on furniture and rugs, and the loudest color should cover only a few square feet, a door or a stack of pillows. Same five colors, different room entirely.
How many palettes should I generate before committing to one?
Roughly ten presses of the spacebar, then stop. Keep the two or three that survived a second look and step away for an hour, because taste flattens out after twenty rerolls and every option starts looking the same. Undo walks back through everything generated in this session, so a palette you blew past is not gone.
Can a generated palette become actual paint colors?
Yes. Copy the hex of each color and run it through the paint color match tool on this site, which returns the closest real paints from brands like Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore. Expect a shift, since a hex is screen light and paint is pigment sitting under your own lamps. Order samples and look at them on the wall before buying gallons.
